gymnastics?
Check the yellow pages and start calling all gymnastic centers in your area. Ask if they have tumbling classes. Most gyms have special classes specifically for cheerleaders who want to gain tumbling and flexibility skills only (don't want to do beam, bars, vault).
i say, Do what you love!
are you married? if not maybe find someone who respects your love for gynastics and will work his butt off to earn money and let you do what you love doing
Is your gymnastics school far from your place? Try going there by yourself or have a classmate pick you up on the way.
Well Kiara Nowlin was doing backhandsprings at 3 and standing full twists at age 6. So I would start them EARLY.... like now... hehe.. where do you live? She started at Gold Coast in Ventura... they are AWESOME!
hey hun,
I did gymnastics for about 15 years. I stopped once I graduated high school, but teach and run a gymnastics camp.
I like the initiative you have to start a new sport. I'm not going to lie, unless you have the right body shape to do gymnastics it will be hard. My one really good guy friend, is really athletic, but it took him forever to learn to do a cartweel, whereas its one lesson for the younger kids.
If you don't have a gymnasts body, take up another sport. This might not be the answer you wanted, but I wanted to be honest.
Good luck.

gymnastics involves all the different apparatuses. like balance beam, bars, floor (tumbling) and vault...those are for women, for men there are a few different ones. if you just want to do the flips then do tumbling instead b/c it will just focus on that.
Class prices vary alot! You can always find a gym that has a good price for what you are looking for. Keep in mind that usually higher prices pay for better coaching; you get what you pay for.
Drop in classes can cost between 5 and 10 dollars a class.
Rec-centers usually have good prices, about 100 dollar a month.
Club prices are usually higher, but have excellent coaching. The price changes with the number of hours of practice the gymnast has a week.
Good Luck

You should have
front walkover
back walkover
front handspring
back handspring
back tuck
front tuck
and maybe a walkover on beam
kip on bars
You need to take it up with the principal or whoever funds the extra curricular activities before you can just start a club all willy-nilly.
Hey, I think its a great idea though. You're going to need LOTS of gym mats, beams, uneven bars. parallel bars, a big floor, a pit, at least 3 trampolines, a vault, chalk, guards, matching uniforms, leotards, or jackets, stereo...
This is going to cost lots and lots of money and time, I am not sure how possible it can be, but good luck in starting the club!
I taught gymnastics when I was 15-17.
There were daytime classes that were mothers/fathers and children starting at age 1.5 years. I thought that was a great place to meet people, start socializing your children. Sports give children confidence, that is another great reason to start them early.
It is better to start them at an early age, even 4 or 5 while they are still flexible, but talents in gymnastics is hereditary. So it doesnt mean that they will be better or worse depending upon when they start, tehre are many factors.
When I first read this, I assumed you were a Physical Education instructor, but now I realize you are a student that must explain the art of gymnastics in an English class. If it were a true gymnastics class, I would fully go with the first person's answer, since they appear to be highly qualified. Since it is actually an academic explanation, I would suggest getting hold of an Olympic gymnastics tape or DVD and show select footage to bolster your report. You could even do it with embedded film clips in a Powerpoint Presentation to spice it up a bit, if that is what you are comfortable with. Good luck with your project.
Most males start about 7. There are so many elite gymnasts I can't really tell you a straight answer. You can become a junior elite gymnast at the age of 10-11. You become a senior at age 16. Most men usually compete in internation competition between 18-27 years old. So starting after 9 years old would be a late start.
I do know Daiane dos Santos of Brazil, a world gold medalist on floor, started when she was 11. That's very late for women's gymnastics.
I think working with youth as a coach should be considered as a form of social work. You have given guidance and direction to those young people. You have nothing to lose by discussing this with a counsellor before you apply.
Good luck
The first person you should ask is her. She knows what is best for her better then anyone online can tell you. If your daughter really wants to do competitive gymnastics i dont think you should hold her back. Gymnastics is GREAT and being on team is so good for a person. Not only is it a self-esteem boost, but on team you can make friends that last for a life time. Once she gets a little older, gymnastics will help her stay organized and usually promotes kids to do well in ll aspects of their lives - most proffesional gymnasts in high school get straight A's because gymnastics teaches them how to motivate themselves. I have also yet to meet a gymnast who loves the sport and also participtes in drugs... you need to much corrdination to be messing with your brain and body with chemicals. Gymnastics will also provide your daughter with adults that they trust that they can talk to, even if they think of them as friends. Not only that, but gymnastics is an experiences of a life time... i know lots of girls that did gymnastics when they were young and say I wish my mom would have let me keep going... I honestly can not think of a valid reason to hold your daughter back from this except that she herself does not want to do it. Talk to her.
I had to take gymnastics in college. I don't think there is a max age unless you are looking to become an Olympian.
pilates execises are very good for you
john
most classes are for ages 4-10 but you could look for adult classes in your area. it gets a lot harder when you get older and out of shape. most professionals stop around the age of 25
I go to gymnasticsonline quite a bit and here is a page on their site that has both gymnastics magazines and websites. There are about 66 things to choose.

It really depends on the gym. My gym has a family open gym on Fridays from 7p.m. to 8p.m. I think that it costs on $1 per person. Even the little kids. So it is really really cheap. Some gyms could be more expensive then this though. And not all gyms have this. Just check with your local gymnastics center to see if they do have an open gym. Good Luck!
i used to be a competitive gymnast and it's a great thing that you want to start. tell your parents that it's a great sport to keep you in shape and healthy. refer to me if you like....it taught me AMAZING life skills and some parts of gymnastics has helped me with volleyball. if you ever decide to quit you can always start tumbling or cheerleading.
email me anytime you need help with a skill or need information about gymnastcs. i'm 13!
