  1. Resolved Question: 40- yard help!!! 10 points?
  2. 31 May 2008 at 9:09pm
Hey, I'm going on to highschool and I want to play football. I heard that they test you on a 40 yard dash or something like that there. Now I run pretty fast, but is there any way I can test myself on the 40 yards? Without going to a track field or whatever. Like, is 120 feet the size of a block, or whatever? About what is it the size of? Oh, and what's the average time for a 40 yard?

  5. Resolved Question: Why is it so important for something to be a sport?
  6. 31 May 2008 at 3:58pm
I feel that in order for it to be a sport: Offense and Defense must be played and be discernible A score must be able to be kept Humans must be doing the work Thus: Car racing of any kind is not a sport (defensive driving doesn't count, there is no score kept and they are in a car) Track and Field is not a sport (no defense, no score) Pool, Golf, Poker etc I'm not saying those things don't take skill or demand a lot physically or aren't performed by extremely athletic people but they are more athletic events than they are sports. Comparing NASCAR to football, tennis, soccer, basketball etc is obviously ridiculous as they are in no way alike. Comparing golf to baseball, volleyball etc is ridiculous as they have virtually nothing in common except for a round ball.

I have so many interests in so many different fields that it's hard for me to break down what it is I want, or what will make me happy. It's getting to the point where I become so unnerved by the thought that I break down. I am only a sophomore in college but I know I need to start getting on track. Has anyone else felt this way or experienced this? I would love any advice.

  29. Resolved Question: DDR and Track and Field?
  30. 30 May 2008 at 5:11am
I was wondering. Could playing DDR (and when I say DDR, I mean DDR on heavy.) in addition with track workouts speed up the process of getting back into shape for summer track? Does it help with leg muscle and stamina? Could it possibly hinder my track career as a sprinter?

  31. Resolved Question: Am I more of a long distance runner?
  32. 29 May 2008 at 10:45pm
Well I just started track last week and I have no idea on what my event is. But I did notice something today at practice when we had to jog for 10 minutes straight as our warm up. Well I jogged about 4 laps around the foot ball field I had to walk about 8 steps then I started jogging again and maybe did that a total of 3 times during the ten minutes. After we were done a few of the girls commented that they thought I could run for a really long time since I barely stopped jogging. I'm not very good at sprinting (but it could be because i'm out of shape lol) so do you think long distance type stuff is my thing? sorry i made a typing error on the sentence "Well I jogged about 4 laps...." It was supposed to be "Well I jogged about the first 4 laps when I had to stop and walk for about 8 steps and I only had to do that about 3 times during the jog"

  35. Voting Question: Cross Country Rule Book?
  36. 29 May 2008 at 9:03pm
For high school varsity cross country, where should I be getting a rule book from? Should it be through my state organization (PIAA for me in Pennsylvania), or through NFHS (National)? Also, if my team will be going to a few out of state invitationals, is it safer to simply get a national rulebook too? Also, for those familiar with PIAA, does "2008 Track & Field + Cross Country" mean the 2008-2009 school year, or 2007-2008? Thank you

  39. Resolved Question: Track and Field!?
  40. 29 May 2008 at 4:31pm
We have an area Track and Field meet next week. I'm going for the 200 meters and Standing Long jump. At school I'm not too bad but once I saw the regional records it freaked me out so now I really want to set myself a goal and try to beat the regional record even if its kind of impossible. :P The regional record for 200m is 26-27 seconds and the record for SLJ is about 2.80m... The best I got for 200m is about 32 seconds and the best for SLJ is 2.38 meters. Are there any tips or training methods I could use to get better at jumping and sprinting? Remember I only have half a week left so I really hope I can try to train. Thanks a lot guys!

  56. 27 May 2008 at 11:44pm
today for track and field practice, i ran the 1500m, and rite after the run, my knee started hurting like crazy. like i cudnt even bend my knee. after like 20 mins i felt like i cud run a bit more cuz i dint wanna be a lazy ass. so i ran the 800m after, slowly, not sprinting. and like in the middle of my 1 1/2 lap, i started to feel the pain in my knees again, but wayyy worse. so after the run, i sat down and relaxed. then we walked back home, and once i got home my mom put that bandaid wrap around my knee, but for some reason it got worse. i can move very little, i dont know what happened. i have had lots of practice with running, since i was in grade 4. and now im in grade 7. WHATS HAPPENING. WILL I BE ABLE TO RUN THE TRACK DISTRICT WHICH IS IN 8 DAYS?!?! couldnt *** even bend my knee.

I know I sound really gay and all but I don't no what to do. Teachers said that last year once the 8th graders got on their 3rd lap they stopped and walked what should I do to avoid that.

  63. Resolved Question: Uncontrollable Bladder Function?
  64. 27 May 2008 at 8:26am
This is extremely embarrassing for me, so I would really appreciate responses from people with the same problem, or someone educated that might have a possible resolution. I am a track and field and cross country runner, and about 5 years ago whenever I would be racing and get in a very nervous situation I would start to pee while running. Whenever I won the race or there was not a lot of pressure, this would not happen. But when I was in a big race and a girl passed me that I should be beating or need to beat, this would happen. I've seen a few doctors about this, and none had a resolution. I was given some bladder control medicine and this didn't work. I even went down to the local GNC store and bought some StessTabs to help reduce stress, and this also did not work. This is a very embarrassing thing for me to accept, and if there is anyone out there that has had this same problem, please help!

  73. Resolved Question: Am I on the right track...?
  74. 26 May 2008 at 6:06pm
Currently, I am a High School sophomore. As I ponder a future career, I have decided that something in the medical field is right for me. Am I on the right track to entering a good pre-med program and eventually med school? Moreover, do you have any other suggestions for other possible fields (salary is not the main concern, but rather the excitement and rewards of the job). -I have good grades (A average in Hon. Chem, A+ in Spanish, A in Hon. Precalculus, A in Hon. English, B in A.P. US History, but likely a 5 on the college board exam, second chair Viola in Orchestra) -Some medical experience--I am in the local EMS explorer post with First Responder certification, but have just completed the EMT-B course and am nearly done with that testing. I am also doing some EMS bike patrols this summer as well as actual riding on the ambulance. -Private Pilot Certification--I am working on obtaining my private pilot license, with approx. 22 hours flight time and plans on soloing this summer. -I am also on the school's debate team and have won multiple awards in addition to qualifying for states. -A fairly good tennis player. -Am currently working out the details of attaining an AHA CPR Instructor certification and teaching CPR as a part time job.

  88. 25 May 2008 at 4:18pm
I've just been accepted into the IB program, I now feel obligated to proceed into it, but my concern is will i manage. Where i live we have five diffrent seasons volleyball, basketball, soccer, track and field and badminton. Every year each sport has two tournaments, one local with up to 7 schools attending and one international where as we have to travel abroad for about 4 days, i attended every sport and tournament this year whilst attending the IB-Prep, and managed. I also want to attend MUN (Model United Nations) where we travel abroad for about a week, discussing global issues and events with many other international schools around the world. My concern is whether or not i would be able to manage and do well in the coming years of IB. Thanks!
