Not only are Muslim students in San Diego being provided time in the school day for their prayers, but those prayers are also being led by a school aide (a href="http://michellemalkin.com/2007/07/03/hot-topic-muslim-prayer-in-public-schools/ "H/T/a to Michelle Malkin)./p blockquotepA San Diego public school has become part of a national debate over religion in schools ever since a substitute teacher publicly condemned an Arabic language program that gives Muslim students time for prayer during school hours./p pCarver Elementary in Oak Park added Arabic to its curriculum in September when it suddenly absorbed more than 100 students from a defunct charter school that had served mostly Somali Muslims./p pAfter subbing at Carver, the teacher claimed that religious indoctrination was taking place and said that a school aide had led Muslim students in prayer./p pAn investigation by the San Diego Unified School District failed to substantiate the allegations. But critics continue to assail Carver for providing a 15-minute break in the classroom each afternoon to accommodate Muslim students who wish to pray. (Those who don#8217;t pray can read or write during that non-instructional time.)/p pSome say the arrangement at Carver constitutes special treatment for a specific religion that is not extended to other faiths. Others believe it crosses the line into endorsement of religion./p/blockquote pWatch the creep of sharia here. Sharia is the establishment of Muslim law and tradition based in part on the teachings of the Koran as part of society./p pSharia advances when public accommodations are changed to accommodate the Religion of Rampage. It advances when jihadist cab drivers in Minneapolis are allowed to refuse to accept passengers that are carrying alcohol./p pAnd it advances here when a specific religion is allowed to have its 15-minute break in the official school day for prayer./p pWhere are all the outraged lefties who were so concerned over a simple moment of silence at the start of the school day? Why is that implied endorsement of religion and this isn#8217;t?/p pImagine if this had been the local archdiocese that had asked for time during the school day for prayer. Or a group of evangelical Christians. Or the local synagogue. Without ACLUe would break land speed records to get there to file a lawsuit./p pWhere#8217;s the Freedom From Religion Foundation? Just like their idiot leftist brethren at Without ACLUe. There are three, the sport, the bug and a more obscure name for a stool./p pemThe Oxford English Dictionary/em makes no connection between the bug and the game. The etymology of the bug#8217;s name is imitative of its chirping, creaking call./p pThe game has been said by some to be named after some stool-ball game but the emOED /emdismisses this saying that stools were never called crickets until much later than the name of the game showed up./p pThere seems to have been a French game called cricket and so it#8217;s possible that this quintessentially British sport might be named from French 500 or 600 years ago./p pThe English pride in the game was such that about 100 years ago the word emcricket /emwent from meaning playing the game, to meaning playing the game emproperly /emand emfairly/em to doing emanything /emproperly and fairly./p pThe game itself is said to have changed substantially over the years but I can#8217;t explain how since I#8217;ve never understood it.
